Sandy Billabong campground

Sandy Billabong campground

In the heart of Kakadu you’ll find what many believe is the prettiest camping spot in our World Heritage-listed national park.

A vast field of nymphae and yellow snowflake waterlillies greet you as you enter the campgrounds.

There’s an abundance of birdlife both in and around the billabong. You can see white-bellied sea eagles chase whistling ducks across the water as cormorants and long-necked darters perch on half-submerged branches and logs to stretch and dry their wings.

Crocodiles navigate the billabong, peeping through waterlillies and keeping watch on the surroundings, while in the woodlands at the edge of the water kingfishers and bee eaters forage through paperbark trees.
