Jabiru

Jabiru is the main township in Kakadu National Park. It has all the services you’re likely to need and is a perfect base for exploring the park.

Shops and facilities

Jabiru offers an array of facilities, including a:

medical clinic and pharmacy
police station
library
service station (with workshop)
nine-hole golf course
sports and social club
50-metre swimming pool.

Accommodation

You’ll also find plenty of accommodation options here: the Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, Aurora Kakadu Lodge and Caravan Park and Anbinik Kakadu Resort.

During the dry season, ranger talks and slideshows are held at the Crocodile Hotel and the Kakadu Lodge.

Tours

Jabiru is a great spot to hop on a tour – scenic flights operate from the town all year round and there are a range of day tours into Arnhem Land (depending on seasonal access).

Bowali Visitor Centre

Jabiru is where you’ll find the Bowali Visitor Centre. With a theatrette, library and interpretive display, the visitor centre will tell you everything you need to know about Kakadu.

Marrawuddi Gallery

The Marrawuddi Gallery in Jabiru promotes Aboriginal fine art by artists from Kakadu and the wider region. There is a great selection of books, along with a boutique range of bags, clothes and souvenirs to take home as a gift or memento from your time in Kakadu.

Walks

The Bowali track starts opposite the Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel and winds through woodlands to the Bowali Visitor Centre. There is also a lovely walking track with picnic spots around Jabiru Lake.
