Cyclone update
Please be aware that a monsoonal low off the Top End coast with potential to develop into a cyclone is moving west, tracking towards northern parts of Kakadu during today and tomorrow. Gale force winds, significant rainfall and flooding can be expected.
Kakadu National Park is therefore on cyclone watch and some parts of the park are closed, or may become inaccessible, over the coming days.
Bowali Visitor Centre will be closed from midday on Thursday, 9 January and is due to reopen on Saturday, 11 January at 8:00 am.
Ubirr art site and Manngarre walk in the East Alligator region will be closed on Friday for rangers to assess damage and/or potential hazards such as unstable or fallen trees. Following an assessment we will update you if there will be a longer closure.
Visiting fishers should refrain from fishing, particularly on the South Alligator and East Alligator Rivers until the end of the week as tides are likely to rise significantly above the normal high tide. There is a risk of gale force winds, damaging waves and dangerous flooding.
