Expressions of Interest – Female Tourism Industry Representative

Background

An ancient living culture, millennia-old rock art, towering escarpments, cascading waterfalls, teeming billabongs, spectacular wildlife… World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park is a place like no other.

World-renowned, it’s a major drawcard for tourism to the Northern Territory, injecting significant revenue into the visitor economy. As a jointly-managed park, the Traditional Owners of the land are beneficiaries of revenue generated by tourism.

As well as ensuring conservation outcomes are met, immersing visitors in Kakadu’s natural and cultural values is a priority of the Board of Management, as is sustainably growing visitation and improving the visitor experience.

Alongside ten Traditional Owners, the Board is comprised of Commonwealth Government representatives, including the Director of National Parks, a representative from Northern Territory Government, the research sector and the tourism industry. Go to more information on the Board of Management

Tourism in Kakadu National Park is guided by the Shared Vision Principles which were established between the park’s Traditional Owners, the tourism industry and the Australian Government.

The Role

Experience in tour operations and product development, and an understanding of the global travel market’s dynamics and visitation trends will be highly regarded. First-hand experience in Northern Territory tourism and an understanding of offering tourism experiences in remote locations in partnership with Indigenous Traditional Owners and Custodians is also desirable.

Reflecting the Australian Government’s commitment to achieving gender diversity on its boards and committees expressions of interest are being sought from women working in the tourism industry. Candidate selection will also include consultation with the Traditional Owners of Kakadu.

The successful applicant will be required to attend quarterly Board meetings (allow three days per meeting) as well as chair the Kakadu Tourism Consultative Committee, a subcommittee of the Board of Management, that also meets quarterly (half day meeting).
