Gunlom Falls
Gunlom to reopen
Thursday 22 May 2025

Gunlom, one of Kakadu’s most iconic sites, will open to visitors on Saturday 31 May.

Visitors will be able to access the site and the Gunlom campground from 8 am on Saturday 31 May.

For those looking to camp, the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and the on-site campground manager will collect the camping fees. If the campground reaches capacity, the nearest alternate campground is Kambolgie campground.

Kakadu National Park is expecting a large number of visitors to attend the opening and encourage people to allow additional time for travel, drive to conditions and arrive early.

Final preparations for the opening are continuing on site. The crocodile management team has identified a 3-4 metre saltwater crocodile in the Gunlom lower pool. Staff will continue to undertake crocodile management activities to catch and remove the crocodile before the opening. An update on the status of this will be provided ahead of the opening along with any safety directions.

A reminder that crocodiles inhabit waterways in Kakadu and to be Crocwise at all times. When visiting Kakadu, please follow all safety directions on site and follow the Leave No Trace principles which includes taking all of your rubbish with you.
