Kakadu’s Gunlom to open in July
Gunlom, one of Kakadu’s major destinations will open to community, visitors and the tourism industry on 4 July 2025.
Unseasonal rainfall in late May impacted the site, causing flooding and damage to roads and infrastructure, resulting in a delay to the opening.
Kakadu rangers have been undertaking road repairs, site debris clean-ups and repairs to campground infrastructure to prepare the site for opening.
Rangers are also working to remove a large saltwater crocodile that was detected in the Gunlom lower waterhole. It’s a timely reminder that Kakadu is crocodile country and to always Be Crocwise. Further updates will be shared ahead of the opening along with any safety directions.
A large turnout is expected on opening day and we ask visitors to please allow extra time for travel and to drive to the conditions.
For those looking to camp, the Gunlom campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and the on-site campground manager will collect the camping fees. If the campground reaches capacity, the nearest alternate campground is Kambolgie campground.
