On 28 March 2025 the government assumed a Caretaker role. Information on websites maintained by Parks Australia will be published in accordance with the Guidance on Caretaker Conventions until after the conclusion of the caretaker period.

Traditional Owners from the Gunlom Aboriginal Land Trust have given approval for Parks Australia to reopen Gunlom.

Gunlom is anticipated to open in early May 2025, subject to weather and conditions allowing for the site opening activities to be completed.

An opening date will be confirmed and communicated as soon as possible.
