A tropical low has formed in the Arafura Sea to the north of Kakadu National Park that is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone and slowly track towards the Top End coast during the next three days.

The weather system is already bringing some long-awaited rain to the region, causing some road closures, including the Old Jim Jim Road. The amount of rain we see in the Kakadu region will depend on how far the system tracks south after making landfall on the Arnhem Land coast. We are expecting to see gale force winds and significant rainfall towards the end of the week.

With this in mind, please check road reports before you travel and stay updated on warnings issued by the Bureau of Meteorology and remember: If It’s Flooded. Forget It!
