Major infrastructure investment for Cahills Crossing

Kakadu National Park’s Cahills Crossing Viewing Area re-opened following a $3 million infrastructure investment into the visitor site.

Straddling the East Alligator River, Cahills Crossing is one of Australia’s best known crocodile spotting sites and a major tourist attraction. 

The site upgrade includes a new picnic area and three viewing platforms linked by a new rainforest walk.

The region’s Traditional Owners co-designed the site upgrade with Parks Australia and architects to protect the unique environmental and cultural values at the area.

The reopening of Cahills Crossing visitor site took place during Kakadu’s peak crocodile spotting period.

The main viewing platform looks directly over Cahills Crossing and gives visitors a great vantage point to safely watch up to 40 crocodiles feeding during the Spring high-tides. 

Kakadu National Park reminds visitors to Be Crocwise at all times. Obey all safety signs and comply with directions from Kakadu staff.

Kakadu National Park management would like to thank commercial tourism operators for temporarily suspending their tours to Cahills Crossing while the visitor site was under construction.
