Passing of a Bunitj Traditional Owner and respectful closure of Ubirr
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander followers are advised that the following post contains the name of a person who has died.
Permission has been granted by the family to use the name of the deceased person.
The Director of National Parks acknowledges the passing of a senior Traditional Owner Ngalwakadj.
In line with cultural practice and the wishes of the Traditional Owners, Ubirr will be closed this Monday 18 August.
This is a significant cultural occasion for the people, and we thank visitors for their understanding and respect.
Other areas of Kakadu National Park will remain open as outlined on the Kakadu Access Report.
Ubirr will reopen on Tuesday 19 August.
