Gunlom Road is situated in the vulnerable corridor between the Kakadu escarpment and the South Alligator River.
Significant realignments have been requested by Traditional Owners to avoid a section that runs closely alongside the river and becomes inundated and damaged every year.
The scope includes concrete and floodway upgrades, gravel re-sheeting and the realignment of a 6.5km section to gravel standard which will improve the safety, flood immunity and amenity of this roadway.
Gunlom Road will remain open during construction works, using traffic management controls.
The Northern Territory Department of Logistics and Infrastructure (DLI) is delivering a range of road upgrades across Kakadu National Park on behalf of Parks Australia during 2025-2027.
