Road upgrades to improve access across Kakadu

Visitors to Kakadu National Park can look forward to smoother, safer journeys with upgrades planned to key park roads.
Works will begin in late 2025 with Kubara and Maguk Roads, followed by upgrades to Gimbat, Gunlom, and Jim Jim Falls Roads in 2026 and 2027.
The upgrades will improve flood resilience, include road widening for safer travel, and feature sealing and realignments. All roads will remain open under traffic management during construction to minimise disruption to visitors.
Funded through a $70 million commitment from the Australian Government and delivered by the Northern Territory Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, the works are part of a broader $216 million investment to grow tourism in Kakadu.
These key roads connect visitors to some of Kakadu’s most iconic sites, support tourism and local businesses, and provide vital access for park operations and emergency services.
