Marrawuddi Gallery

Marrawuddi Gallery

For Kakadu’s local Bininj/Mungguy, art is an expression of cultural identity and connection to Country.

Throughout Kakadu you’ll find beautiful collections of Aboriginal rock art sites. Discover the rock galleries at Burrungkuy (Nourlangie)Nanguluwurr and Ubirr

Traditional paintings with ochres are now commonly done on canvas – a more sustainable practice than on bark. Didgeridoos, clap sticks, carvings and hunting tools are made from different bush timbers. The women of Kakadu have a long tradition of collecting plant fibres and bush dyes which are woven into ornaments such as baskets, mats and jewellery pieces.

Visitors can enjoy and buy these arts, crafts and artefacts made in Kakadu and neighbouring Arnhem Land from Marrawuddi Gallery in Jabiru and Injalak Arts in Arnhem Land.

The Marrawuddi Gallery in Jabiru promotes Aboriginal fine art by artists from Kakadu and the wider region. There is a great selection of books, along with a boutique range of bags, clothes and souvenirs to take home as a gift or memento from your time in Kakadu.

Opening times

Monday to Friday: 8 am – 4 pm

Injalak Arts

Located near the boundary of Arnhem Land, Manbiyarra (Border Store) is a Kakadu institution. In 2021, Injalak Arts opened a pop-up shop at this iconic site in Kakadu National Park.

This Indigenous-Owned charitable non-profit organisation, sells paintings on bark and paper, weavings and sculpture as well as hand-screen printed fabric lengths.

At the art centre in Gunbalanya you’ll find artists and weavers working on the covered verandahs on either side of the building. Injalak Arts has around 200 active members – from Gunbalanya and surrounding outstations.

Explore the art centre and allow a local guide to take you on a tour of the rock art galleries at Injalak Hill.

Injalak Arts is an outstanding example of a community organisation that is 100% Aboriginal owned and delivers positive social, economic and cultural outcomes for its members.

Opening times

The Injalak Arts pop-up at Manbiyarra (Border Store) operates between late-May and October each year when it is open from 10 am to 4 pm, 7 days a week.

Injalak Arts now has an online shop! All items offered for sale are made in Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) and the homelands, and all arts and crafts sold through this store will include a Certificate of Authenticity. Browse the Injalak Arts shop.
