For Kakadu’s local Bininj/Mungguy, art is an expression of cultural identity and connection to Country.
Throughout Kakadu you’ll find beautiful collections of Aboriginal rock art sites. Discover the rock galleries at Burrungkuy (Nourlangie), Nanguluwurr and Ubirr.
Traditional paintings with ochres are now commonly done on canvas – a more sustainable practice than on bark. Didgeridoos, clap sticks, carvings and hunting tools are made from different bush timbers. The women of Kakadu have a long tradition of collecting plant fibres and bush dyes which are woven into ornaments such as baskets, mats and jewellery pieces.
Visitors can enjoy and buy these arts, crafts and artefacts made in Kakadu and neighbouring Arnhem Land from Marrawuddi Gallery in Jabiru and Injalak Arts in Arnhem Land.
