H5 avian influenza (bird flu) is a serious strain of bird flu that has been circulating globally in wild birds.
It can also spread to some mammals and on rare occasions, humans.
Unfortunately, H5 bird flu has arrived in Australia. The risk to humans remains low, but there are simple ways community can help our native species.
With Kakadu’s wetlands supporting an incredible diversity of bird species and wildlife, visitor and community awareness is an important part of preparing for H5 bird flu.
